Is Aion free?
The app is free. You bring your own AI provider key and pay the provider directly for what you use. With a free Google Gemini key, most people pay nothing at all — Gemini's free tier covers day-to-day use.
Which AI provider should I pick?
Google Gemini is our recommended default. It has a generous free tier and is the only provider with built-in web grounding — live web search and Research Mode work out of the box. OpenAI and Anthropic are great too, but they need a free Tavily key on the side for live web search.
What's Tavily and do I need it?
Tavily is a free web-search API. You only need it if you pick OpenAI or Anthropic and want Research Mode or live web search to use real-time sources. Free tier: ~1,000 searches/month. Not needed with Gemini. Stored encrypted on device.
What stays on my phone?
Everything: beliefs, chats, journals, reminders, profiles, API keys, and extracted memory all live in an app-sandboxed local database. Cloud prompts leave only when you use a BYOK provider or a tool — and they carry only the current request's context, not your whole memory. No Aion server.
How is Aion different from ChatGPT memory?
ChatGPT's memory is a flat list of facts. Aion's memory is structured: every belief has a confidence score, a domain, a last-confirmed timestamp, a source turn, and a contradiction history. Beliefs decay when not reinforced. Contradictions are surfaced, not silently overwritten. Recall is semantic, not keyword-based.
Does Aion have voice chat?
Yes. Three voice engines: Android System TTS, Piper Fast Neural, and Kokoro HD Neural (18 voice presets with streaming speech). Long-press the mic for continuous voice chat, tap to interrupt mid-reply.
Is Gmail supported in v1.0.1?
Not yet. Gmail integration is built into the app but hidden in the v1.0.1 release while OAuth verification finalises. It is planned for a future update.
Does Aion work offline?
Cloud providers need internet. There's also an optional on-device Local Runtime for fully offline use — smaller and slower than cloud, but no network needed. Voice engines run locally after their one-time model download.
How much does it cost to run?
Most people pay cents per month — or nothing, if using Gemini's free tier. The Aion app never charges you; you only ever pay your chosen AI provider directly for token usage.
Can I delete everything Aion knows about me?
Yes. Settings → Privacy → Reset active profile wipes chats, beliefs, contradictions, reminders, and journals for that profile. Uninstall the app to remove everything Android-side.
