Everything Aion can do for you
A complete breakdown: the memory system, the 15 built-in tools, the three voice engines, the proactive companion layer, and the full privacy stack.
How does Aion's memory actually work?
The unit of memory is a belief, not a message. Every fact Aion learns carries confidence, a timestamp, a source, a domain, and a contradiction history.
Show the full memory-system breakdown 12
Confidence scoring
Every belief starts moderately confident. Repeating or confirming it raises confidence. Conflicting information lowers it. Aion knows what it's certain about and what's probable.
Temporal decay
Beliefs fade over time without confirmation — Aion knows when something is old. Core identity facts (name, city, occupation) decay much slower than situational ones (current goals, what you're watching).
Contradiction handling
When new information conflicts with a past belief, Aion surfaces it: "is this a new role, or did I misremember?" Both old and new beliefs are kept with their timeline — never a silent overwrite.
Domain graph
Beliefs live in domains: work, health, family, social, interests, finance, learning, personal. That lets Aion notice cross-domain patterns — "your sleep gets worse around sprint deadlines" — that a flat list never could.
Semantic search
Memory lookup is by meaning, not keywords. Say "my partner" today and "my wife" tomorrow — Aion connects them. Recall is about what you meant, not the exact words.
Provenance
Every belief records when it was learned, when last confirmed, and its source turn. You can always see why Aion thinks something.
Profiles (separate memory spaces)
Work profile and personal profile don't share beliefs — by design. Your work model of yourself is different from your personal one. Switch between them in the drawer.
Private session
Flip Private Session in Settings → Privacy. The chat still works — nothing is extracted, nothing is saved to memory. For conversations you don't want remembered.
Edit, pin, delete
Open the Memory tab. Long-press any belief to edit the value, pin it to the top, or delete it. Aion respects removals immediately — it won't "remember it anyway."
Encrypted export
Export your entire profile — every belief — as a passphrase-encrypted file. Re-import later, or move to a new device. It's your data.
Reset profile
Settings → Privacy → Reset active profile wipes chat, beliefs, contradictions, reminders, and journals for that profile only. Other profiles stay intact.
Weekly memory digest
A weekend push notification summarising new, updated, and corrected beliefs from the past week. Toggle in Settings → Privacy.
What built-in tools does Aion have?
These aren't a menu of buttons. Aion reads the conversation, decides what would help, and offers — "want me to add that to your calendar?" The 15 active tools group into 11 capability families below. Gmail integration (2 additional tools) is planned for a future update.
Show all active tool families 11
Reminders
Three tools in one family: one-time (≤ 48 h) for "remind me in 20 min", scheduled / recurring for "every day at 6pm", and list / cancel for "what reminders do I have?" — all fire as phone notifications.
Calendar read & write
Two tools: read ("what's on Friday?") and create / move / cancel ("add dentist Thursday 3pm"). Runs through Android's calendar provider — never through an Aion server.
Journal entry
"Add to my journal: …" — Aion writes clean prose from raw speech or messy dictation.
Email (Gmail) — planned
Not active in v1.0.0. Gmail integration is built into the app but hidden in the current release while OAuth verification finalises. When live, you'll connect Gmail from Settings → Features → Email for read-only inbox summaries. The phone will talk directly to Gmail APIs — no Aion server in the loop.
YouTube search & review
Two tools: search ("play One Piece" opens YouTube with the query) and review ("summarise this video: <link>" analyses the transcript).
Music play
"Put on some jazz" — opens YouTube Music with the query.
Research mode
Multi-step, web-grounded deep research. Three depth levels — Quick (3 steps), Standard (6), Deep (8) — with a cost warning before starting. Result saved as a Word doc.
Profile document
"Write a doc about me" — Aion exports a personal profile from memory. Rich, ordered, readable.
Action loop (goals)
"I'm going to start running" — Aion tracks the goal, checks in on progress, updates the belief as things evolve.
Web search
Native model-level search for current information — weather, dates, news, live facts.
Image understanding
Attach from camera, gallery, or any app's share sheet. Aion analyses the content — objects, scenes, text, context.
Document understanding
Share a PDF, Word doc, or code file (.kt .py .js .json .xml .md .txt). Aion reads and answers on its contents.
What else does Aion do beyond the 15 tools?
These aren't things Aion "calls" — they're parts of the app itself, woven into daily use.
Show all product surfaces 12
Voice chat
Long-press the mic in the composer. Aion listens, replies, and speaks. Tap to interrupt mid-sentence. With auto-speak and auto-send enabled, you never touch the screen.
Morning briefing
Auto-generated every morning at a time you set. Pulls your calendar, active reminders, and a digest of what's changed in your memory this week. Arrives as a notification even if the app is closed.
Review mode
Say "catch me up", "what changed", "recap my week", or any of 27 trigger phrases. Aion pulls from changed beliefs, past conversations, and open loops to give a 5–7 sentence review. Works with time windows: today, this week, fortnight, month, or quarter.
Proactive check-ins
In-chat follow-up prompts and gentle nudges. Aion offers them when it spots something worth following up on. Default ON. Settings → Privacy → Proactive check-ins.
Proactive insights
Push notifications for cross-domain patterns Aion notices when you're not in the app — "you've mentioned feeling off three Sundays in a row." Default OFF. Settings → Privacy → Proactive insights.
Insights tab
Bottom nav → Insights. Domain-by-domain summaries of everything Aion knows — what it's certain about, what's fading, what's contradicted.
Memory constellation
Bottom nav → Memory. Visual map of your beliefs by domain, plus a searchable list view. Filter, pin, edit, delete.
Share to Aion
System share sheet in any app → pick Aion. Works for text, links, HTML, and images. A news article, a receipt photo, a recipe — share it and Aion reads it into context.
Home-screen widget
Quick-launch tile. Tap to open the composer without loading the full app first.
App shortcuts
Long-press the Aion icon for quick actions: new chat, voice, open insights.
Report response
Long-press any assistant message → Report response. Sends a pre-filled email to support. A Google Play AI policy requirement, and a useful feedback channel.
History search
Bottom nav → History → search bar. Every chat, searchable. Journal entries live here too — tap to read or delete.
Can I change Aion's name, tone, and personality?
Aion isn't one-size-fits-all. Pick a name, pick a tone, pick a style — or dial in every trait yourself. Settings → You.
Show personalisation options 6
Companion identity
Rename Aion to anything you want — the app will call it that throughout the UI. Optional emoji fallback for places the name doesn't fit.
Tone & style — 5 base styles
Pick the baseline: Neutral, Warm, Direct, Playful, or Formal. Sets the default register for how Aion writes and speaks.
6 trait sliders
Fine-tune beyond the base style: Warmth, Enthusiasm, Initiative, Emoji use, Directness, and Depth. Mix and match.
4 persona packs
Pre-made combinations of style + traits, curated for different moods. One tap swaps the whole vibe without touching individual sliders.
Custom instructions
A free-form instruction field. "Always cite sources." "Keep replies under 3 sentences." "Never use bullet points." Applies every turn.
About you
Seed Aion's model of you with nickname, occupation, and a more-about-you free-form field. Skippable — Aion learns the rest from conversation.
Does Aion have voice chat? What voices can I pick?
Settings → Look & Sound → Voice Engine. Pick the engine that matches your device and preference.
System TTS
Android's built-in engine — Google TTS, Samsung TTS, whatever your device ships with. No download needed. Works instantly, decent quality, zero setup.
Piper Fast (Neural)
Lightweight neural TTS. One-time ~20 MB download. Three English accents (AU / US / UK), adjustable voice speed. Much better than System TTS, small footprint, fast startup.
Kokoro HD (Neural)
High-quality neural TTS with streaming — speech starts as the AI reply arrives, so you hear it sooner. 18 voice presets (10 female, 8 male — Heart, Alloy, Bella, Nova, Adam, Echo, Liam, and more). One-time model download.
Speech behaviour & hands-free
Auto-speak replies
Toggle in Settings → Look & Sound → Speech behaviour. Aion reads every reply aloud automatically as it arrives.
Auto-send voice transcript
Finishes your speech and sends immediately without the extra tap. Combined with auto-speak, gives fully hands-free chat: long-press mic, talk, listen.
English accent picker
AU / US / UK. Lives in Playback Tuning. Applies to both Piper and Kokoro voices.
Voice speed slider
Speed up or slow down playback. Handy for longer replies or when you want quicker turns.
Can Aion read photos, PDFs, and shared content?
Not just text. Attach from the paperclip icon, or use the system share sheet from any app.
Show every input type Aion accepts 6
Camera capture
Tap the paperclip → Camera. Take a photo and Aion analyses it on the spot — "what's in this photo?", "read this menu", "is this plant healthy?"
Gallery pick
Paperclip → Gallery. Attach any existing image. Multi-image works too — send a few together for richer context.
Share sheet (any app)
In any app — browser, mail, messages, PDF reader — use the system share sheet and pick Aion. Text, links, HTML, and images all flow in.
PDFs & Word docs
Share or attach a PDF or .doc/.docx. Aion reads the content and answers on it — summarise, find clauses, compare sections.
Code files
.kt .py .js .json .xml .md .txt — Aion reads and reasons on them. Useful for quick review, debugging, or understanding unfamiliar code.
Voice input
Short press the mic for a single utterance. Long-press for continuous voice-chat mode with streaming reply and interrupt-to-speak.
Which AI provider should I use with Aion?
The Aion app is free. You supply your own AI provider key — Aion encrypts it on-device and uses it for replies. You pay your provider directly for token usage — typically fractions of a cent per message on the default model.
Google (Gemini)
The simplest path for most users. Google's free tier is generous (hundreds of requests per day on the current free model), and Gemini has native web grounding built in — so live web search and Research Mode just work, without a second key. Best multi-modal support for images and documents. Get a key at aistudio.google.com.
OpenAI
Pick any model available on your OpenAI account. Paid-only — no free tier. For live web search and Research Mode you'll also want a free Tavily key (see below), since OpenAI doesn't ship with built-in web grounding.
Anthropic
Pick any Claude model on your Anthropic account. Excellent writing and reasoning. Paid-only — no free tier. For live web search and Research Mode, pair with a free Tavily key (see below).
How live web search works
Research Mode and "search the web for…" requests need grounded, up-to-date sources. How Aion gets them depends on your provider.
Gemini path — nothing extra needed
With a Google key, Aion uses Gemini's built-in grounding to pull live results, with source chips shown in the reply. No separate search key. This is why Gemini is the recommended path.
OpenAI / Anthropic path — add a free Tavily key
OpenAI and Anthropic don't ship with a live web-search tool. Add a free Tavily API key in Settings → AI Setup → Web Search API Key. Free tier: ~1,000 searches/month. Stored encrypted on device (same model as your LLM key) — never routed through an Aion server. Without Tavily, Research Mode falls back to the model's training knowledge for non-Google providers.
Streaming replies
All three providers stream — text arrives token by token, and with Kokoro TTS, speech starts as the reply is still coming in.
Optional local runtime
Settings → Advanced → Local runtime. On-device LLM for fully offline use. Smaller, slower, lower quality than cloud — but no network needed. Gated and optional in v1.0.0.
Languages
Chat works in whatever language your chosen cloud model supports. OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini all handle major world languages fluently. Aion's own UI is English.
Reply-path overview
Settings → AI Setup → Reply path shows exactly which provider, model, and key are in play for the current reply — and when the local runtime takes over. No mystery about where replies come from.
